Sixteen LV Digital Inputs 8-Layer HAT (16inpind): AC input behavior (zero-crossing) and Home Assistant

  • Hi,
Since February 2023, I have been using your older "Sixteen Digital Inputs 8-Layer Stackable HAT" and a few other of our HAT´s  for Raspberry Pi. I used it to read 12V AC signals from push buttons in Node-RED with the native Node-RED palette, and it worked perfectly with stable inputs.

Recently, I switched to the new version of the card, the "Sixteen LV Digital Inputs Card". I am now using your official Home Assistant integration because, due to the restrictions of Home Assistant OS, the native Node-RED 16inpind palette will no longer work.

However, with the new board and a short input refresh rate of less than 100ms (which is needed for a normal light push button), I get a continuous blinking/toggling behavior (50 Hz) on the inputs when I apply 12V AC (or even when there is an induced voltage of around 6V AC on the line). I struggled with this for some days.

After moving my push buttons to DC and grounding the wires, everything is working great now.

Since the new card is explicitly specified for AC voltage: Is this continuous toggling behavior with AC signals the intended hardware design for this new version?

    Thanks for your help!
